Shanele N. McGowan, M.D.
Shanele N. McGowan, M.D. is a double board-certified physician specializing in pain management, neurophysiology, and neurology. She received her doctorate of medicine from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. She went on to complete residency training in neurology at the University of Chicago, followed by fellowship training in neurophysiology (concentrating in nerve conduction studies/electromyography) at the University of Chicago. She then completed a second fellowship in interventional pain management at New York University, Dept. of Anesthesiology. Dr. McGowan is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with board certifications in neurology and pain medicine. Additionally, she is board-eligible in clinical neurophysiology.
Dr. McGowan uses her unique and diverse training background to integrate electrodiagnostic with interventional and non-interventional pain management techniques, to diagnose and treat a wide variety of painful conditions. These include but are not limited to: peripheral neuropathy, including diabetic neuropathy and carpal tunnel syndrome; central pain syndromes, including post-stroke pain, pain related to multiple sclerosis, and pain after spinal cord injury; headache syndromes, including migraine headache, tension headache, and cluster headache; as well as atypical facial pain/cranial neuralgias, chronic pelvic pain, neck pain, back pain, complex regional pain syndrome, and a multitude of peripheral joint pains – hips, knees, etc. Additionally, she can assist you with an accident and work-related injuries.
