Dr. McGowan uses her unique and diverse training background to integrate electrodiagnostic with interventional and non-interventional pain management techniques, to diagnose and treat a wide variety of painful conditions. These include but are not limited to: peripheral neuropathy, including diabetic neuropathy and carpal tunnel syndrome; central pain syndromes, including post-stroke pain, pain related to multiple sclerosis, and pain after spinal cord injury; headache syndromes, including migraine headache, tension headache, and cluster headache; as well as atypical facial pain/cranial neuralgias, chronic pelvic pain, neck pain, back pain, complex regional pain syndrome, and a multitude of peripheral joint pains – hips, knees, etc. Additionally, she can assist you with an accident and work-related injuries.

Dr. McGowan is a meticulous diagnostician and understands that relief of painful conditions cannot begin without a thorough consultation, examination, and medical workup. Following an accurate diagnosis, Dr. McGowan utilizes a variety of interventional techniques to treat pain, including epidural injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, nerve blocks, BOTOX, joint injections, PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy, etc. Dr. McGowan believes in a multimodal approach to the treatment of pain, and therefore supplements these techniques with medication management, behavioral/lifestyle modifications, physical therapy, chiropractic manipulation, acupuncture, etc.

As a native Chicagoan and firm believer in a physician/patient team approach to wellness, Dr. McGowan looks forward to working with you at one of our several Chicagoland locations!
